Heat Issues & Power Supply Venting

Since a lot of us are turning to more pixel related displays, one thing that comes to mind, power supplies and lots of them.  With those power supplies, they have a tendency to heat up when a heavy load is placed on them or venting in inadequate.

 

 

Here's our article from several years ago about venting power supplies.

Below are pictures from two power supplies in a CG1500 enclosure running 1,500 pixels at 12VDC. One PS has 800 pixels while the other one is running 700 pixels.  We took measurements from the one running 800 pixels in an Glossary Link RGB order for about one hour.  From the results, you can see why it's important to give them room to breathe during heavy usage.

The last image is where 100 pixels are in a small bunch.  We decided to take the temperature of them while running.  It's important to give them room to breathe as well due to heat buildup.
